Scholarship Policy

Scholarship Policy

The Australian International School Hong Kong (AISHK) offers a variety of secondary school scholarships each year, to outstanding new students so they can benefit from the best possible education the school has to offer, while further developing their own unique talents. Scholarships are greatly sought after and are only awarded after a process of rigorous selection. They will be awarded to students considered to have high academic potential, who will benefit substantially by attending the school, and who will, in return, make a significant contribution to the life and culture of the school. Factors other than solely academic potential may be taken into account. Fluency in the English language is essential to be offered a scholarship.

AISHK Academic Scholarships

AISHK scholarships are available to new students who can demonstrate potential, excellence and talent in academics across the senior school years, with entry at either Year 10 or Year 11. Scholarships are awarded for the duration of the students' studies at the school, including their final Year 12. Scholarships are awarded to recognise talent and potential, rather than to support families with school fees. Scholarships may be awarded for up to 60% reduction in tuition fees for the duration of the student’s time at the school. Students awarded a scholarship will receive 50% reduction on the annual Capital Levy. All scholarship awards are made at the discretion of the Head of School, in consultation with the Head of Secondary and the Scholarship interview panel. Their decisions are based on the recommendations made to them as a result of the application process.

 Scholarship Application Process

AISHK’s Scholarship Application Process is available on the AISHK website for details on the timing, assessment and criteria for the scholarships each year.

Expectations of scholarship students

AISHK scholarship recipients are academic and all-round role models, who must always set an example by their attendance, diligence and conscientious approach. These students have a positive influence on others around them, and their support for their peers is highly valued. We expect all scholarship recipients to apply themselves enthusiastically and try their best in everything they do at school. They are expected to commit to all subjects, and participate fully in the school community, and always prioritise commitments within school over others, as much as possible. AISHK recognises the commitment made by scholarship recipients to the learning community and in return is committed to the student's development. This commitment is evidenced through a targeted provision, to challenge and support them in all areas of academia. Subsequently, scholarship recipients are expected to maintain the highest standards, representing AISHK, in order to enhance the academic, sporting, and creative life of the school.

Scholarship review

Existing scholarships are reviewed annually by the Head of school, to approve their continuation, removal or amendment. A scholarship may be withdrawn if the student’s progress, attendance, engagement or commitment are unsatisfactory and/or the student is not upholding the school’s ethos and values.

Removal of scholarships

The Head of School can withdraw or reduce a scholarship award if a student’s:
  1. progress, behaviour, or attitude is unsatisfactory;
  2. involvement in their specialised area is minimal;
  3. or the school's ethos is not being embraced and upheld.
Any concerns regarding the potential removal of scholarships will be communicated prior to any decisions being made, to allow the opportunity for the student to meet the expectations of the scholarship award.

Confidentiality of scholarships

AISHK respects the financial confidentiality of scholarship awards made to families. The school will maintain confidentiality of any scholarship recipients. Parents and their child/ren are also expected to maintain the confidentiality of the award. Any breach of confidentiality may result in the award being removed. The school would anticipate that after graduation from the school, the scholarship recipient would agree to share their achievements and how they benefitted from an AISHK scholarship.
